Hitachi researchers are engaged in research directly related to the development of technologies, products, and services that will lead the Social Innovation Business with the goal of "creating global No.1 technologies". They work on a wide range of topics, from basic to applied, and are expected to be creative and challenge themselves. The main bases for their activities are three sites in Japan, and they promote research globally in five regions around the world, including North America, Europe, China, and APAC.

  • The Kokubunji Plant supports Hitachi's business by conducting research that leads to the creation of new innovations.

    Established in 1942 as Hitachifs Central Research Laboratory, the Kokubunji Site conducts research with a 10- to 20-year horizon while also tackling todayfs challenges. In 2019, we opened gKyoso no Morih (Forest of Collaboration), promoting innovation through the fusion of technologies and knowledge via an open co-creation approach aimed at achieving the SDGs and Society 5.0.
    Working together with customers and partners through ideathons and hackathons, we explore new business opportunities and drive research and business creation across a wide range of areas, including advanced AI and data science, emerging technologies, healthcare and biotechnology, and measurement and informatics.

    Established in 1934, the Ibaraki Site is our oldest research center and aims to solve global problems. It develops energy systems for a decarbonized society, safe automated driving and mobility, home appliances and air conditioning that support our lives, innovative materials, and manufacturing technologies. Researchers from a wide range of disciplines work together to create new technologies that will enable a sustainable society.

    At the Yokohama Site, we are engaged in research and development to create new social systems in the fields of industry and distribution, transportation, finance, and government. We are looking for people who have the ability to conceptualize and execute, and who are involved in manufacturing technologies such as system design and software development, security, and supply chain design, with the goal of achieving DX.

    We have a global research structure with five bases including Japan, and we promote locally led global research based on local needs and No. 1 technology in cooperation with our overseas bases in North America, Europe, China, and the Asia-Pacific region. We promote global research and development through collaboration with Hitachi's overseas research laboratories and joint research with universities, research institutions, and companies around the world. We strive to support our overseas business by making the most of the characteristics of each region to advance our research, and by understanding the needs of each market in real time and feeding them back into our research and development.

    We cooperate with internal and external educational institutions to provide training to acquire necessary skills and advance careers. We also actively participate in and present at international conferences and other events to gain experience that will lay the foundation for global expansion. We also have a system in place to support employees who wish to pursue degrees or improve their language skills.

  • Hitachi Open Laboratory

    This is a place where Hitachi and customers can work together to conduct realistic and rapid prototyping, with the aim of exploring future social issues with customers and solving them through research and development. It is also used as a communication space where employees can hold internal meetings and refresh themselves.
