1993年に大阪大学大学院工学研究科電子工学専攻修士課程修了後(専門は半導体物理)、日立製作所入社。同社中央研究所にてSH4マイコンやSH-MobileなどシステムLSIの集積回路開発に従事。2002年から2003年までStanford大学Computer Forum客員研究員。2008年中央研究所組込みシステム基盤研究所組込プロセッサ研究部長。2011年、新世代コンピューティングプロジェクトを立ち上げ文理融合研究を開始すると共に、2015年には量子インスパイヤード技術であるCMOSアニーリングを発表。2013年から2015年まで本社戦略企画本部経営企画室にてLumadaの立ち上げを担当。2016年、研究開発グループ情報通信イノベーションセンタ長。2017年、同グループ技術戦略室シニアストラテジースタッフ。2018年、同グループ基礎研究センタ主管研究長兼日立京大ラボ長。量子コンピュータの研究開発に加えて、文理融合でのAIや社会・環境・経済価値のバランスをめざしたCyber Physical and Human Systemに関する研究などを牽引。2025年より現職。工学博士。米国電気電子学会(IEEE)フェロー、米国計算機学会(ACM)会員。
